Mix Console Filter Visibility and Configurations in Cubase 12
hello everybody andrew blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're going to have a look at the mix console filter visibility and configuration settings in cubase 12. but before we start i want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future i'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wave lab or cubase plug-ins or the cable guys shaperbox2 and many many other projects that are in the works then i know you're going to find just like i have that this is an invaluable study aid and the other thing i want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple pdf this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free okay so let's get started so if you're looking at the mixer up on the top you have a little drop down area that has filter types visibility options and configurations and if we get rid of the mixer we also have the same exact thing in the project area where we have filter types visibility and configurations so let's see what these can do okay so first of all in the project window let's look at this filter option here when you click on that you get these filter types and cubase is like you know set up with all different kinds of tracks you got midi tracks group tracks effects tracks sampler tracks all these different kind of things and they're all in this project window you know in this list here and if you go to these filter types and you start unchecking these those if you have them in your project they'll disappear and they will reappear as you put them in there you can also hit this all track type and wipe them out with one you know hit and the same thing you can hit that and bring them all back in if you go to the mixer you have that same uh you know amount of choices you have filter types you can hit it and again you can start kicking off different channels the way you want to see them you can turn them all off at once you can turn them all back on again so this is where the various mixers that you have if you go up to studio and we talked about this where you have all these different mixed consoles in this case you have four of them but this is where these start to really come into i guess convenience in other words you can like set up these filter types for each one of those mixers so on this main uh project area i've got all my tracks you know all the different track types everything here but when i go to maybe my mix console 2 there i've gone to that filter type and i've set it up so that it only shows my group channels and my vca faders and then i've got a dedicated mixer just for that or i go to my next mix console and i've messed with those filter options and this one i've only got effects channels set up so you know you can set up on each mixer its own filtered type of tracks and then by setting up shortcuts for those you can bring those into view very quickly you know when you want to use those then you have these track visibility agents and these i use all the time you have the one that shows all the tracks you have one that shows only selected tracks that one is pure gold if you're like working on something and you've got just all you know 30 tracks here and you're constantly scrolling up and down and you need to quickly clear some space out select a track go up and hit this one that says show only the selected tracks now you can work on that one track and you've hidden everything else then you can come back up and hit show all the tracks and they all come back into view hide selected tracks show tracks with data data at the cursor position hide the muted tracks high disabled tracks and then down here as you go to the bottom you have advanced agents and you have a whole bunch of options here which then leads us into this configurations and this one is a just a really good work efficiency option you can set up one of these let's say i want to show only selected tracks okay so i pick maybe this track and i pick this track and maybe this track and i say okay make only those selected tracks show up all right now i can go to this configurations options and i can add a configuration so i say all right add configuration and i give that a name hit ok and now anytime i'm working with these configurations i have a list of those so i can hit one that saved those particular tracks or i can change to another one that i had set up so the bottom line is whatever you've set up in these screens whether it's in the project or in the mixer you can then save these as configurations and recall them then we take it a step further and get fancier if we go up to the edit and down to the key command options and you look through this list of stuff and you find the category that says the channel and track visibility many of those visibility options are available here i've found that not all of them i'm sure they're working on updating them but most of them are here but what they did give us is if we go down the list we have these kind of generic visibility configuration you have one two you have up to eight of these and you can just assign shortcut keys to these generic visibility configurations like i said there's eight of them and then what will happen out of that let me close this window out as you go back to this area where it has the visibilities i have two of these set up and i could create up to eight of these just as we just saw on those keys and it would show me the shortcut keys associated with them and now i can call those back now here's where it gets even more sophisticated you can have separate configurations in this project window and you can have separate configurations in the mixer window so when you go to the mix console maybe you have eight different configurations of things this way like here i have one that says work tracks and it you know puts away everything except for maybe specific tracks that i uh track audio with or then i can go back to show all channels but when i go back to the project window i have configurations you know that are just specific to the project now these all use the same shortcuts so if i make generic shortcuts back in that key editor to those eight generic visibility options they are chosen based on whatever the focus is so if i'm focused in the project window i can use my like for example in my case i have uh a and shift a as my shortcuts here if i hit the letter a on my keyboard it will show me all the tracks on my project that's what i've assigned it to on the other hand if i go into the mixer window and i hit the letter a i will get my little work track option so it just depends on what i'm focused on so in other words even though there's let's say there's eight of these configurations you can create in theory there's really 16 because you can have eight dedicated ones in the mixer and you can have eight dedicated ones in the project window so you have a lot of options for calling and recalling different setups you know in these screens now the only drawback that i have found in this whole thing is that these are not saved universally in other words when i close this project down these go away so when i open up another project they're not there and i have to start all over but you can solve that problem by saving these as a template so if you design these put your configurations into a project template and just save it every time you open that project template up there will be all those configurations and you can quickly move through all the different views on your tracks all right there you go so you have your filters you have your track visibility options and then you have your configurations and i'm going to focus on the configuration as i say make use of those you know set up different filter types set up different visibilities and then save those as a configuration and then if you want to take it a step further save your configurations with key commands and you will be on your way to some real custom views in your qbase workflow if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go links to all this content ever growing and it's there to study and it's there to review and i gotta tell you i make use of it myself every week great to have you guys here and we'll see on the next video
