Effects for Tracks-Groups-Clips in Wavelab Pro

hello everybody andrew blake from thedigitalaudiomanual.com today we're going to talk about some of the ways we can add effects to tracks clips and groups etc in the audio montage in wavelab pro but before we start i want to remind you that there's a link below to the free content navigation guide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content on this channel and besides that in the near future i'm going to begin adding tips and other bits of information that will only be available there you know things like simple steps that will get you started and up and running quick things that are in the videos but are written down in simple steps that serve as quick reminders when you need information down the road if you're working with programs like wavelab or cubase plugins or the cable guys shaperbox2 and many many other projects that are in the works then i know you're going to find just like i have that this is an invaluable study aid and the other thing i want to make sure you understand is that this is not a simple pdf this is a constantly updated page that has any information that is new or anytime videos are changed really anything updated and once you have it you will always have the latest information constantly updated so if you haven't gotten it already go to the link below click on it and save it to your favorites it's my gift to you and it's absolutely free okay so let's get started all right so first up the obvious stuff you know you have tabs over here on the right for the master section and the inspector when you're dealing with the master section you can add effects to any of these slots and this affects everything everything that's happening in this you know wave lab project when you move over to the inspector you get a little more detail in other words you have the option to affect just the clip or you can affect the track or you can affect the output of the whole montage and you can also do the group and notice in mind the group is grayed out why is that well it's because we have no tracks in any groups let's let's quickly do that as a review so you know what's going on if i go over to a track and i right click on it and i go down to add the selected tracks to a group first thing it's going to prompt me to put a group in here so i hit the little plus sign here and give it a name i'll call it group one give it a color if i want to let's give it a nice bright color say okay add this add these tracks to the group now you can see this particular track over here has this little kind of maroon uh color down here in the corner but it's the only one these other tracks don't let's add this track to that same group right click on it go up to add selected tracks to groups and now i have my group here so i can just highlight it say add to select the track and now this track has a little maroon color down here in the corner so i have two tracks that are part of that same group now when i come over to the inspector my group has now come alive and i can add effects to that particular group if i go back to a clip for a minute let's go back to one of these clips click on it and now i go over and i can hit the tab that says clip and i'm going to add an effect to that particular clip let's go ahead and put the master rig on there gonna close that out let me go over to this clip and go over to the effects again and let's say i had a an eq frequency so now when i hit this clip if i go over here i can see that i have the master rig and when i hit this clip i can see i have frequency and not only that but if you zoom in on these clips get a little closer at the bottom they now have the title of the clip and it shows a little icon that shows there's an effect on it and if you hover that it actually shows you what effect is on it like this one shows you frequency and if i go over here and hover over the name on this it comes up and it says master rig as we move down this inspector tab into this clip we have some options that are you know nice and convenient here that we have the option to change the color of the clip let's change this color here i can select this clip pick a color i can go over and select this clip i can hit the little color icon make it something else i have an option to be able to find all the clips that are in the montage right here shows the ones that have effects on them little options there to decide if i want to see the montage effects automation or gain anything like that i can turn effects on and off i have an option for that if we move over from the clip to the track we're given some extra options that are only really available in the track if we go down there's one that says clean a little tab here and if i hit this clean one it opens up and gives us a bunch of restoration type options i can expand this pane here so i can see things better now if i turn on this first part of the clean one there's one that says d hummer and i can now decide how much i want to reduce the hum if there's any i can listen to the result if there's anything removed i can do the same thing to one that says denoise i can turn that on i can turn up the reduction i can listen to if there's you know what's been removed there's one for de-essing so i can turn that on if i have vocals that have esses i can reduce it i can change the character make it more suitable for a male voice or a female voice same thing there's a listen button to let you hear what's being changed or taken out you have a bunch of other options below that you have an enhance option allows you to add some excitement add some reverb add some eq a maximizer and then beyond that you can add your own effects to these slots down here too you have again the montage output which affects everything every clip every track you have the option to bypass that if you put any effects in there you have a menu here that has just all kinds of stuff basically you can you know remove the plugins if i go to a clip highlight it and it has an effect on it i have the option to copy that i can then go to another clip and i can then paste it if i've created chains you know multiple effects i can save and load those i can import them from the master set of plugins there's a thing here that says the plugin map just kind of gives you a layout of what's in this montage what's being used and then there's an option at the bottom it says the plugin window handling and this is good because it allows you to make some choices like do you want to use one window or close other windows this one you know is important because i know when i was first working with this i would open up effects and then i would open up another clip effects and it would override it you know instead of using a separate window that's because you know if you don't set those options the way you want in this in this option dialog here that'll happen when it comes to these clip effects you have some pretty sophisticated ways to apply the processing when you go to the effects slots here i have a compressor on the second slot if i hit this very first little icon i can process the stereo you know clip but i can also process mid side left right all different kinds of various ways to uh affect it besides just the main clip itself next to that little icon there's a little arrow when you hit the arrow you have the option to again just put the uh plug in in a regular insert but you can blend it or you can do a parallel processing if you make selections let's do the blend for a minute if i take the blend then there's another little icon very tiny hard to see next to the name when you hit that you can actually change the gain on the plugin or the tail size now the tail size for example on a reverb when the way it's set up normally when the reverb when this clip ends the reverb is going to end but if i adjust the tail size it actually will go longer than the actual clip let's do this to try it i have a reverb on this clip and as i play this clip the clip ends and so does the reverb if i go to this little arrow and i go down the tail and i start spinning it up you can go a full two minutes we don't really need a full two minutes but let's put a full two minutes on there play the clip again and there the reverb now decays in a natural way as you move along on the name of the effect if you click on it it actually opens the effect up keep going and then you have an option for presets where you can save presets or put in make them default presets the effect options after that basically allows you to either remove it or add a different plug-in and then finally you have the bypass button you want to just bypass it you have these like clickable panes which either you know expand or hide the information there and you can right click on those if you want to refine what they show all right so there you go um it turns out that there's a lot more options for affecting clips i'd say in in terms of like podcasting then i actually even realized i had never really worked or saw these options the noise ds or these enhancement options where you can put on an exciter or a reverb or an eq none of these really i don't know if they were in previous versions of wave lab i don't remember ever seeing them but um you know if you're into i would say definitely if you're into like podcasting these are probably some really good options in terms of uh ways that you can putting a final polish on whatever your podcast is all right if you haven't grabbed your navigation guide be sure to grab that before you go links to all this content ever growing free to use and it's there for you there for me and it's there to review when you need it which is what i do almost weekly i'll tell you there's so much stuff there now and it's great to be able to just kick on a little small video and refresh something that you may have learned a year ago great to have you guys here we'll see you on the next video
