Working With Pads V3 in Groove Agent SE

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we'regoing to move on to our third video aswe continue discussing working with thepads and groove agent but before westart I want to remind you that there'sa link below to the content navigationguide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there if you'reworking with programs like wavelab orqbase plugins or the cable gu paper boxand many many other projects that are inthe works then I know you're going tofind just like I have that this is aninvaluable study Aid and the other thingI want to make sure you understand isthat this is not a simple PDF this is aconstantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to your favoritit's my gift to you okay so let's getstarted let's have a look at some of themidi effects associated with pads beforewe start let's load this kit in go up toyour kits tab load your load panel uphere and this tab that says kits go downto this content set select and pick thisoption that says SC Studio kit and youshould get a bunch of kits there justtake this first one that says break medown double click that and then go toyour patterns hit this pattern that'slike this second row up the first one onthe left and then go up and hit thisplaybutton I mean that's assuming you'reyou're playing along or following alongyou don't have to necessarily do it youcan just watch what I'm doing if youwant but I do like to try to give youthings to do because definitely you knowthe more you do the more it's going toget in your hands so with the patternplaying let's switch over from thepattern to instrument here and as we cansee again things light up as thepattern's playing it shows you whatthings we going hit if we go go down tothe first row you can see that thissnare is being hit cuz it lights upevery couple bars I'm going to hit thatput the yellow border around it I'mgoing to go ahead and hit solo on thisso now we're only hearing the snare thepattern is still playing in thebackground but only the snare is beinghit this one over here on the left islit up as well we're going to talk aboutthat in a second just ignore that fornow all right so with this snare beinghit if we go up into our middle displayarea over here there's an option besidesthe main button there's one that saysshow the midi effects I'm going to clickthat Tab and this gives us a screenthat's pretty much grayed out at themoment now let's look at some of thesethings these are really fun things andadd a lot of life to the sounds now theyapply to whatever the highlighted pad isso that's why I'm highlighting thatsnare first I put the yellow border thefocus pad around that let's go up firstof all in the middle here there'ssomething that says rudiments and youcan hear that snare every time ithits it's just one hit you know everytime the drummer hits that snare he'shitting at one time with the stick nowwhen we turn these rudiments[Music]on hear that that's what's known as aflam if you haven't heard it typicallywhen a drummer hits a drums and he usesmore than one stick he kind of like hitsthe two sticks quick that causes thatflam effect and if you look here in thistype we have a little drop down list andthere's a bunch of little options hereand these are all considered drumrudiments let's listen to these otherones I'm going to switch to the next onethat saysdrag that's like three hits in a rowrealquick let's go to this next one it saysrough that's like four hits in a rowquick now the next one saysroll you're not going to hear that letme stop the drums for a minute now I'mgoing to hold my mouse on this drum padand listen to what itdoesright and then let's do this last optionthat says Buzz hitthat that's kind of an effect when adrummer puts a stick on his drum andthen hits it with the other stick and itkind of bounces the sticks makes thatkind of a sound now you got to think anyone of these effects you know it seemslike the really little simple things tryto program something like that I meanreally try to you know the simplestthing like that on a couple of your drumhits try to program something like thatwith the velocities and the notesfollowing each other and imagine doingit you know every three or four timesthe drummer plays throughout a song whatGroove agent has given us here withthese simple little things like this areways to add touches to your playing andprogramming that mimics real lifedrummers playing that would be inreality very difficult and very timecconsuming to try to actually put intoprogramming on your own what's happeningwhat we did right now is what'sconsidered if you look up here on thepad mode it says internal and so whatthat's saying is that this pad itselfthe one that we've highlighted that'sthe one that's being affected by theserudiments whatever I change it to that'sthe one that's being affected now you'llsee over here this one has this littlelike sonar symbol on it because what youcan do you can take another pad insteadof using the original pad you can useanother pad to trigger this and thebenefit of that is it leaves this onefree to not be affected by rudiments youcan still play it normally but anotherone can do the rudiments now so what'shappening is when we go up here and wehave to switch over to the one thatwe're going to use as the remote controlso we have our original Pad but we'regoing to use this pad to remote controlit so I highlight that I go up here tothe pad mode and I on that one I switchfrom internal to this remote at thatpoint I tell this pad that I've justturned on remote and see now it has alittle sonar sign on it there wave orwhatever you want to call it as we go upto the pad mode we have a drop- downlist and here in this drop- down list wecan assign what we want that remote toaffect in other words what other pad onour system so I wanted to get to thesnare right next to it so all I do ishave to pick that it's already pickedbut I get a little check mark next to itso now what happens is this pad nolonger plays on its own the sound thatit had is gone it's really playing thispad over here but it's playing it withthoserudiments and I can do the same thing Ican change these rudiments aroundwhatever I want you know in theroll any of any ones that I want so thenI have both options I can play the padwithout thesound and with therudiments so again with the song isplaying and I take off thesesolos and I'm hearing my snare being hitlike it Norm normally was but I can alsonow hit thisremote and add these rudiments in rightinlivetime change it to maybe a a dragsound I mean again think about how hardit would be to program something likethat so going further you also can turnon the sync option so your fills andyour flams and your rolls and that kindof stuff will go in sync with aTempo sometimes you want it out of syncbut if you want it in sync for exampleif I go up here hit follow transport andthen I hit my transportbar so right now the drums are playingwith the clickTempo and if I switch this the triggerpad to roll now I hit when this triggerhits so you getthat switch to 160 for itdotted if we turn the sink off we canstill use this time at about 50milliseconds rightnow77 so then we have this dyamics knob andwhen the Dynamics is turned down all theway everything is like at the samevelocity if we turn the Dynamics up allthe way it's at the mostdynamicthen the last thing we have here is ahumaniz which basically kind of throwsmonkey wrenches at all the stuff triesto you know throw the timing and theDynamics and everything a little bitslightly off if I have it all the waydown everything's moreprecise let me turn itup on all these different rudiments theflam the drag rough and the the rollthey all use these same time Dynamicsand humanized options but when you getdown to the buzz they change to grippressure and humanize the mostnoticeable be in this pressure one asyou turn it up you hear more[Music]Decay thegrip if you turn it up it's a little bitlessBuzz as you turn itdown you get a little bit more and withthe human ey like before when you turnit up you get the most basic chaosbasically going back to the basic snaresound if we turn on this mididelay that's what we get is like arepeat of thenote and your first option is to eitherhave it in sync with thetempo kind of all over the place or insync if you turn on on the sink thenyour values are measured you know halfnotes quarter noteswhatever how many repeats youget thedamping basically when I hit a note itfadesout with the damping if it's turned upall the way the notes Fade Out as theygo I'm hitting it onetime and it's fading out with differentrepeats but if I turn itdown it buildsup that is a great effect I hitit and then itattacks again to you know program thatin it's a lot more work it just does itby itselfautomatically you have a pitch knobwhich is excellent if I turn the pitchknob upyou getthat and if I turn it down you getthis and then the last option you havethisdistribution if I turn itup as I turn it if I turn it up thenotes get longer as theyproceedif I turn itdown they getquicker all right so there you go andthat's going to wrap it up for today asalways if you haven't already be sure tograb your copy of the digital audiomanual content navigation guide from thelink below this video it's a fasterbetter way to learn and review pick itup look it over all the different topicsthat are gathered there and then you toocan get started on your path to a betterway to learn all this stuff so wecovered a lot of stuff today talkedabout the midi effects on the padsworking with a focused in instrument inSolo we learned how to show the midieffects talked about the rudiments theflam the drag the rough the roll thebuzz we talked about the pad modewhether it's internal or remote set theremote Target we had a littledemonstration of what happens with thatsaw how we can sync the effects all thedifferent options the Dynamics the humaneyes how the buzz has some slightlydifferent rudiment options at the mididelay in those options the damping pitchknob and the distribution so many thingswe can do to add some realism to thesedrums and we're going to continue tokeep exploring all these differentfeatures and functions with Groove agentas always it's great to have you guyshere and I'll see you on the next[Music]video
