today we talk about

Project Browser in Cubase

hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today let'stalk about the project browser in Cubasebut before we start I want to remind youthat there's a link below to the contentnavigation guide which is an easy tonavigate web page with links to all thecontent on this channel and besides thatin the near future I'm going to beginadding tips and other bits ofinformation that will only be availablethere if you're working with programslike wave laab or qbas plugins or thecable guide shaper box and many manyother projects that are in the worksthen I know you're going to find justlike I have that this is an invaluablestudy Aid and the other thing I want tomake sure you understand is that this isnot a simple PDF this is a constantlyupdated page that has any informationthat is new or anytime videos arechanged really anything updated and onceyou have it you will always have thelatest information constantly updated soif you haven't gotten it already go tothe link below click on it and save itto your favorites it's my gift to youokay so let's get started so the projectbrowser it's basically something thatallows you to see everything that'shappening in your project we're lookingat the project browser let me close itout you can see I have tracks of variousthings maybe effects maybe automationall the things that would be in aproject I want to open up the projectbrowser so I go up to the menu that saysproject go down to where it says browserand click on that and in a second or twoI'm looking at the project browser whatcan we do with the project browser let'sexamine this one thing that'sfascinating and fun to look at rightaway is how you can see every little bitof data in your project on the left as Istart moving down this list of variousthings anything I click on gets alsoreflected over here in the TrackInspector area for example I hit thisBass track and it selects the Bass trackdown here hit the kick and then itselects the kick down here and you getthis total Bird's eyye view ofeverything happening for example maybethere's some Automation in your track Icome down I can see a little folder hereand it says automation there's a plussign by it I can click that and righthere I can see all the little autom bitsI click on any of these audio tracks Ican get specific information on the datathat's happening on the track I can openup some of these folders and see what'sin the folders a real fun andinformative way to view your project andjust see everything that's in here andkind of a list view so as we look aroundthis list over on the left we have theproject structure which again shows youeverything that's happening in theproject up on the top we have some kindof toolbar below that we have an infoline tells us some of the things when weclick on it now we have the eventdisplay which gives us details ofwhatever we've clicked on up on top youhave these Master plus and minus Keysone will open up all of your folders ifyou need to resize the window to seethem all and one will close all thefolders moving over to the right we havethe time format allows us to seeeverything in bars and beats or secondsor time code or anything else you'relooking at something specific like righthere I have this audio sample showingthe measures of where it is in theproject but if I start changing the timeformat for example if I change it toseconds the then the display will showseconds instead of bars and beats thereason things change depending on what Iclick in this project structure area isbecause there's an option up here on theright that says sync the selection byuncheck that then I can independentlymake choices so one of the first ways toget acquainted with this is look at thisproject structure window and the factthat we have everything listed we canclick on any topic and then depending onwhatever we click on we get differentresults over here in the display so if Istart right at the top and I clickproject browser I get all kinds ofdifferent track types over here and thenif I move down the list this next optionsays all the tracks it gets morespecific showing what tracks I have as Ihit certain folders it shows what's inthat folder really interesting to justkind of explore through it clicking onthe various topic and seeing what showsup in the display over here of courseyou can hit these plus signs to openthings up as you go down the list in thetracks and in the folders you'll seethings that say the track data that'lllet you see if there's anything actuallyrecorded on the track you hit anautomation Lane and there's somethingrecorded in this track I have someAutomation and as I look down the listif I click on the automation click onthe actual volume then I can see theautomation data specifically all writtenout I go to this Bass track which hasthese different events I can see theseparate events over here if you want tomove some of these categories around youcan click on them and drag them to adifferent area on any of these files ifyou want to change their names you candouble click on them this is convenientinstead of going up into the info linesometimes or down into the eventsdepending on what kind of event or partit is you can actually double click onthese pictures that will open it up inthe editor if it's a midi part it'llopen up in the key editor if it's anaudio part it opens up in the sampleeditor if you need to move things aroundto start or end positions you can clickon those can change the volume byclicking on it if you want to getcreative and change some of the offsettimes you can hold control and clickmultiple Parts you can come over and hitthe mute option and all these kind oflist-based editors one of the thingsthey're really good for is helping youto identify maybe extraneous data thatyou may not normally see or know that isin your your track or your project andthen you can click on that data whateverit is or multiples of that data and thenyou can hit delete or backspace andremove that one way to approach theproject browser to be able to learn whatit offers and see some of its featuresin action any project that you have goup to the top hit this expand all buttonwhich completely opens up every folderfor you and then go to the very bottomof the list click on your first optionat the very bottom and use your up arrowand kind of click up through thedifferent pieces of information andobserve what you see over here on theright in the display and you begin tounderstand what data is available herewhat data it's going to show and thenanother thing you're going to see youlook at the very very top up here you'regoing to see these empty Fields one overhere says filter right now in thisexample is completely blank if Icontinue with my arrow moving upwardsfor example I hit on markers and theminute I did that three little dotsappeared if I go over to the down arrownow I see that it's giving me the optionto see if I have regular markers orcycle markers and if it's on the threedots it's showing me both the cycles andthe regular markers if I hit the regularmarkers it filters out everything butthe regular markers and if I go to cyclemarkers then it shows me only the cyclemarkers there is no other view in qbasethat allows you to quickly seeinformation like this you can easily useyour mouse wheel over this and just spinthrough these different optionsfiltering what you want to see and thenif you go a little bit more to the leftyou get a drop- down arrow and againdepending on what kind of informationyou're looking at you'll have the optionto add more of it for example I can addmore markers or I can add more cyclemarkers if I'm on markers I can clickthis add button and I can quickly add abunch of extra markers if I change thisdrop down to cycle markers I can quicklyhit the add button and add a bunch ofcycle markers and then once again comeover to the filter area and filter outwhatever I want to see and then I canrefine them if I need to if I go back tomy arrows and I continue up my list alittle further for example when I cometo this track that has note values on itagain I'll see these three dots appearin the filter area it shows the notesand in the display this point I can goto the add area and in this drop down Ican pick any number of things that Iwant to add more of let's go tocontroller I'll hit a bunch ofcontrollers program changes add a bunchof extra program changes some aftertouchdata add a bunch of those pitch pen datasystem exclusive and some text now if Ihit on a track that actually had allthis information which many tracks couldit's not unusual for a track to have abunch of notes controller and pitchbendand any number of these other optionsthen again I can go over to this filterdrop down list and I can quickly justspin through the different filters andsee exactly what's available on thattrack if at some point I decide there'ssomething that I don't need I think itmight be messing up my track for exampleall these program changes maybe I don'tneed these program changes I could thenjust select all these program changesand then I could hit the delete key Iknow I've taken those out of my track sothe best way to use this project browseris just spend some time clicking onvarious things in a project that youhave use your arrow keys to go up anddown and just become acquainted with allthe data that you have in any particularproject then you'll have a whole anotherway you can change or use your data whencertain things come up that you may needto do all right let going to wrap it upfor today as always if you haven'talready be sure to grab your copy of thedigital audio manual content navigationguide from the link below this videoit's the faster better way to learn areview pick it up look it over all thedifferent topics that are gathered thereand then you two can get started on yourpath to a better way to learn all thisstuff so we looked at the projectbrowser another one of these list basededitors in qbase my feeling on all ofthese kind of editors is get to knowthem get comfortable with them and thenuse them when you need them we looked athow to open up the project browser wesaw how the list view can reflect theproject we looked at the different zoneshow to sync the selections the projectstructure we saw how to expand and arrowthrough those different folders We sawwhat data shows up we saw some exampleswith markers and notes and learned howto filter that data out and we're goingto continue to move through all thesedifferent features and functions inCubase as always it's great to have youguys here and I'll see you on the nextvideo
