Managing Your Sounds in Groove Agent V4
hello everybody Andrew Blake from thedigital audiom manual.com today we moveon to our fourth video as we continuediscussing how to manage our sounds withGroove agent in Cubase but before westart I want to remind you that there'sa link below to the content navigationguide which is an easy to navigate webpage with links to all the content onthis channel and besides that in thenear future I'm going to begin addingtips and other bits of information thatwill only be available there if you'reworking with programs like wavelab orqbase plugins or the cable gu shaper boxand many many other projects that are inthe works then I know you're going tofind just like I have that this is aninvaluable study Aid and the other thingI want to make sure you understand isthat this is not a simple PDF this is aconstantly updated page that has anyinformation that is new or anytimevideos are changed really anythingupdated and once you have it you willalways have the latest informationconstantly updated so if you haven'tgotten it already go to the link belowclick on it and save it to yourfavorites it's my gift to you okay solet's get started let's go to the tabthat says browser and if yours lookslike mine it has all media this computerVST sound and user content as you beginexploring and searching through thesefolders getting different results orjust opening different things up as youget to folders that contain informationand there things that you would like toreturn to if you you look above all thelittle folders in this area that lookslike a text area anything that you hiton that you have not yet saved you'regoing to see the name of the folderlocation and a little asterisk next toit at that point if you go to the rightthere's a little plus sign and if youhit that plus sign you will be promptedfor a set name type dialogue box whichyou can just keep the name of the folderor you can type in something that youwill recognize hit okay and now thatlittle asteris is going to go awayleaving just the name of that folder andnow as you look in this text area it's adrop down which you can now click on andit will show you that you've saved thatlocation now I have gone ahead and savedmultiple locations so I can easily clickmy little drop- down arrow and I canbrowse quickly to these saved locationsso as you go along and you have thingsthat you like or you want to get tooquick definitely take advantage ofsaving them to a favorite location ifyou've got something in here over timethat you don't want anymore you canselect it and then next to the plus signthere's an X and you can click on thatto remove it as you go down into thislist of folders and files and you findyourself exploring and clicking onthings take advantage of the arrowsabove specifically the one that goesstraight up and just click that multipletimes that will always ultimately takeyou back to the very top all mediafolder and that one I would say go aheadand save right away as well I've alreadydone it so I have a little asteris herebut it's a great folder to have saved inthis list of dropdowns so as you gothrough things you can always quicklynavigate right back to the top folderagain remember that also as you have allthese folders opened up you can rightclick on any of them and say collapsethe tree to clean everything back upagain before we continue on let me getyou to save one more folder and thenwe'll both have some kind of groundworking area so hopefully you've alreadysaved the all media if you haven'tfollow the steps we just outline andsave that go up to your drop- down listand make sure you click on the all mediago to the all media right click on itand say collapse the tree now go downinto the second results area and lookfor the user content folder double clickon that go down to the bottom where itsays vst3 presets double click on thathopefully you see Steinberg mediaTechnologies double click on that andnow you should see your groove agent SCfolder double click on that which willnow open up and show you the folder youcreated earlier but when you look backup at the top where we've been talkingyou should see Groove agent SC with alittle asteris on it go over to theright where the plus sign is hit thelittle plus sign accept the name Groveagent SC say okay and now in your littledrop- down list at the top here youshould have at least two favoritelocations saved one being the all mediaclick on that one hit your drop down andthe other one should be your grooveagent SC click on that one and then ofcourse any other folders you want to addFeel Free as we go along but I'llprobably be directing you to add more aswe go so let's talk a little bit aboutwhat's called the results list now we'vekind of looked at it it's this area downhere whatever shows up down here this iswhat Groove agent can actually read anduse if it doesn't show up down hereGroove agent really can't use it so onceyou start searching through things andyou get stuff in this results list youhave a huge amount of topics things upat the top on the columns we kind oftalked about this when we were lookingat other stuff the Styles and the MIDIfiles and things but first you want tojust get comfortable moving through thescreen now down at the bottom there's abar that you can grab and you know movefrom left to right I find sometimes it'shard to grab that little bar so just beaware that if you put your mouse overthe results area hold shift and turnyour mouse wheel it also will scrollleft to right and that works pretty muchflawlessly for me so I I'll just passthat on as a tip so that being said whenyou look up at the top you have thesecolumns right now I'm looking at onethat says name and rating and propertiesas I look along this list maybe I'minterested in this sub style over hereand I want to be able to see thatwithout having to go back and forth likethis all the time all the columns aremovable so you can grab things and movethem you know whatever order you want soI can bring this sub style all the wayover and drop it right where I want itso now I can see that next to everythingelse so whatever I want I can bring itinto view the other option is just abovethe list a little bit over to the rightthere's a button that says set upresults columns and when you click onthat but any of these headings that workfor you the date that it's modif IED oryou know whatever anything that worksfor you you can just click on thoseoptions and those become columns in thislist now again you may have to scroll tofind it so if you want that in view youmay have to click it and drag it over towherever you want to have it to be inview you can hit on any column nameitself and that will sort things by thatparticular topic like if I hit name thenthe names get sorted alphabetically if Ihit the substyle then the things getsorted by the sub style when you'regoing through samples that you have onyour computer you want to quickly beable to scan through those samples findwhen you like and use it so a couple ofthings when we're looking at thisbrowser here like I'm looking right nowwhen I click on any folder or icon orwhatever you want to call it down in thebottom we get the results okay that's apretty obvious situation but in terms ofbeing able to just scan through soundswell alls I got right now is a bunch offolders and if by chance I had somesounds in these folders I would have toclick into that folder click into thatfolder again click into that folderagain basically keep going until I findthe sample I'm looking for so I have asearch field here so let's say I'mlooking for a kick drum I have theoption to type in text into this searchfield okay so I'm going to type in Kickif I don't press enter what it's goingto attempt to do is see if there's anykind of subfolder called Kick and rightnow it hasn't found anything and back inmy early days of using Groove agent I'dhave thought well that's it you knowthat's the limitation of this programmove on and that's because I didn't knowwhat I was doing so let's talk about howto do it the right way there's a few keybuttons you want to understand let's goback first of all clear out my searchthere's a little button here that saysclear the search I'm going to clear thatsearch out number one is this littleeyeglass right here next to the searchfield when you enact this littleeyeglass you're telling this searchoption here to look in subfolders aswell as the folders so I'm going to turnon that subfolder button I'm going tomove on down to my documents folderbecause I'm trying to limit from havingthousands and thousands of results fromall the media on my computer to just themedia in my documents I'll click mydocuments folder and now it foundapproximately 200 and some odd kicks letme show you another button to be awareof as we move over to the right there'sa little asteris button and if we clickon that we have the the option to filterout certain media types so right nowit's showing all the files let's stay onall files for a minute as I browse downthis long list now of 200 and some filesI will find actual audio files I willfind the actual folder that some ofthese files came from anything that hasanything related to kick because I typedthe word kick in there it's going tofind it so if there's something maybe ina description of the name anything I canfind down here we have our pre-listensection so let's make our pre listsection work for us too we have you knowa play stop a pause pretty obviousbuttons but over here in the middle wehave thee Listen and play so I'm goingto turn that on what that means is whenI hit a file it's going to play it andwe're going to leave it that way for nownow I can click on files and I can hearthem but I can also just use my downarrow and now I can just go through allthesekicks now besides that though like Isaid there's there's all kinds of otherthings in here there's folders and stuffall right so we go to our button over onthe side it says filter by the mediatype I click that guy and say I onlywant to see samples I could they saymidi or instruments or kits or anythingelse in here and we're going to look atsome of these again but let's just stickwith samples so I hit samples and now Ihave a fantastically filtered out listof nothing but kick samples and maybeanything that may have the word kick init when I hit the top listand I start hitting my downarrow and off I go looking for theperfect kick sound for my song once youfind something of course you can drag itinto your kit you're good to go butwe're going to do all that coming up thebottom line is this search feature isreally well implemented and is veryfunctional if you know the secretbuttons and the secret buttons arenumber one know how to search for thesubfolders again if I turn this off lookat the the results completely disappearand you'd be under the impression youhave no results the second thing is knowthat you know you have the option tochange the filter types of what you wantto see whether it's samples or midia orwhatever and the third thing youprobably should be aware of is that inthis area where you type in results youhave this refresh or stop start searchif for some reason you don't getinaccurate or complete search the wayyou want hit that button it'll kind ofrefire it back up and you will get theinformation you want to see all rightand wrap it up for today as always ifyou haven't already be sure to grab yourcopy of the digital audio manual contentnavigation guide from the link belowthis video it's the faster better way tolearn and review pick it up look it overall the different topics that aregathered there and then you to can getstarted on your path to a better way tolearn all this stuff as we keep movingthrough looking at
